New year resolutions, goals or intentions are all about ‘creating a new reality’, something that is more desirable and better.
Your actual goal is never about losing weight, making more money, paying off your debts, being in relationship with your soul mate etc.
Your real goal is ‘what’ you expect to experience once you have realized something.
For example, if you’ve decided that you are going to lose 20 lbs in 45 days, your actual goal is what you believe you will experience because you are 20lbs lighter … having more energy, feeling more comfortable in your body, being proud of yourself, attracting more positive attention, etc ….
An essential key to goal achievement is that you focus on your ‘why’ … what you are expecting to experience once you have achieved or realized your goal. 🦋
We can predict what we will experience in our future because right now we are creating it with our thoughts, emotional intelligence and habits. If your tomorrow is being built today, how’s it looking? 🦋
Today is Blue Monday. It’s also the 21st day in 2019. A good time to reaffirm our commitments, review and tweak our new year goals and plans. Note to self, enthusiastic focus is the secret sauce for my success. Let’s do this! 🦋
The number one saboteur of success is lack of focus. Lack of focus wastes our time, burdens our schedules, encourages burn-out and leads us toward failure. The following are 5 easy yet highly effective steps to increase our focus stamina for success.
Know your GOALS and your PRIORITIES. First thing in the morning, do the 1-3 CORE TASKS that move you towards accomplishing your goals and animating your vision of success.
Start UNI-TASKING. Stop multitasking – it is inefficient and stressful.
Control your ENVIRONMENT. Turn off anything that can interrupt you.
Be REALISTIC. Plan more time for each core task. Tasks tend to take longer than we think.
Take a BREAK every 30 or 60 minutes. Clear your head and move your body (Deep-breathing, walk, drink water, have a healthy snack, listen to music…)
Increase your focus stamina daily to succeed, to live the dream, to feel happy and fulfilled …
There are two distinct Freedoms in our world: ‘Freedom To’ and ‘Freedom From’. When we focus on ‘Freedom To’, we naturally expand our horizons and move into new vistas of being and living. When our vision is limited by ‘Freedom From’, our life tends to be tethered to the very experience we desire to be free from. An authentic act of rebellion springs from our passion for the ‘Freedom To’.
To change anything we must be absolutely clear about what it is that we are committed to experiencing, accomplishing or attaining. Clarity of vision defines our focus while a blurry vision will undoubtedly give us random results.
Goals are a means to an end, not the ultimate purpose of our lives.
They are simply a tool to concentrate our focus and move us in a direction.
The only reason we really pursue goals is to cause ourselves to expand and grow.
Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term; it’s who you become, as you overcome the obstacles necessary to achieve your goals, that can give you the deepest and most long-lasting sense of fulfillment.
